Research, Educational and Charitable Purposes

Research

The Walsh Research Institute engages in research aimed at revealing the basic mechanisms and causes of anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, ADHD, violent behavior, Alzheimers and other mental conditions. This work concentrates on genetic, epigenetic, and environmental factors that alter neurotransmitter activity and receptor function. Special attention is given to the biochemistry of the brain, and the role of nutrient imbalances in mental illness.

Clinical Methods

Recognizing the powerful impact of nutrient overloads and deficiencies on neurotransmitter synthesis and synaptic activity, WRI develops nutrient therapy protocols aimed at combating mental illness. The process includes examination by a physician, an extensive medical history, blood and urine testing for special biochemical factors, diagnosis of chemical imbalances (if present), and design of treatment programs. Treatment effectiveness for new therapies is evaluated by careful outcome studies that determine the percentage of patients that have improved, and the degree of these improvements.

Physician Training

WRI has developed an international physician-training program aimed at providing advanced treatment capability to doctors throughout the world. Our goal is to train more than 1,000 doctors in the next ten years. The teaching faculty consists of world-class experts in the fields of ADHD, autism, depression, psychotic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. The educational process includes side-by-side evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment design of numerous patients. Our 2011 Australia program involved training of 40 physicians and evaluation of 188 patients.
